Illegal dumping of waste has been seen in many countries around the world mainly in urban areas. The illegal disposal of household items is known as kerbside dumping. This essay is going to highlight the causes and effects of this dumping.
Unwanted household items are often seen on the footpaths around the houses. Many people say that the safety is compromised due to the large waste placed due to this; this activity is considered as illegal. According to the researchers of Australia, people dump unwanted items on the kerb, due to increased recycling rates. It is not wrong to say that prices are very high in the stores that recycle products. Moreover, the researchers said that sometimes unavailability of huge trucks to carry the waste becomes the cause of dumping on roads. Due to these reasons, people are more comfortable placing unwanted things on the footpaths.
Unwanted items are placed on roads because it is considered as normal activity. Some interviews with the local people revealed that people do what they see others doing. They say everybody is doing this so it is a common behavior. Moreover, it is perceived as the easiest option. Some intervenes added that they have less space for unwanted items in the houses so, people do what they see others doing and take it as a normal behavior hence dump it on footpaths so that it can be used as a charity also.
Illegal dumping has been common in urban areas. People believe that recycling stores have high rates. The unavailability of trucks become the cause of kerbside dumping. Some people believe that it is a social norm as everybody is doing it and some people say that they have less space in their houses, they dump it on roads so that it may be used as charity. Hence it is becoming a common behavior nowadays. However, it should be realized that this practice is illegal and proper steps should be taken to avoid this behavior.
